GMC Baramulla Revolutionizes Diagnostics with Successful Video Bronchoscopy

Date:

The hospital has successfully performed video bronchoscopy with bronchio alveolar lavage and biopsy for the first time ever.

This procedure, carried out by Dr. Shumail Bashir, the associate professor and head of the chest medicine department, has paved the way for better diagnostics and patient care at the hospital.

The procedure was done on two patients, a 34-year-old male with post-tubercular lung fibrosis and LUL Aspergilloma, and a 57-year-old male with suspected lung cancer. This groundbreaking development in GMC Baramulla is a significant step towards early diagnosis and reduced referrals for patients suffering from lung-related diseases.

The success of the procedure was made possible by the joint efforts of the Department of TB & Chest and the Department of Anesthesia, led by Dr. Wasim Salman. The technical staff, including Mr. Arshid Maqbool, Mr. Rafeeq, and others, played a vital role in ensuring a smooth and successful operation.

Video bronchoscopy with bronchio alveolar lavage and biopsy is an invasive diagnostic test that proves helpful in diagnosing lung cancer, atypical infections, interstitial lung diseases, and evaluation of hemoptysis. With such advanced diagnostic facilities now available at GMC Baramulla, patients can expect improved healthcare services and more accurate diagnoses, ultimately leading to better treatment outcomes.
