Dr Sajad Khanday takes charge as President

SRINAGAR, Nov 20: The Medical Faculty Association (MFA) of Government Medical College (GMC) and Dental College Srinagar on Wednesday announced the results of its representative body elections for the 2025–26 term, marking a fresh administrative start for one of Jammu & Kashmir’s premier medical teaching institutions.
The results were formally declared through a press note issued by Returning Officer Prof. (Dr.) Junaid S. Wani, confirming that the newly elected members have been duly chosen for their respective positions after a structured electoral process.
According to the notification, senior ophthalmologist Dr. Sajad Bashir Khanday, Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, has been elected as the President of the Association. His election places him at the helm of faculty affairs at a time when the institution is navigating academic expansion, curriculum strengthening, and demands for improved infrastructure.
Associate Professor of Physiology Dr. Riyaz Ahmad Lone has been elected as Vice President, bringing academic experience from the pre-clinical wing to the Association’s top leadership. The post of General Secretary will be held by Dr. Syed Sajad Hussain, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, who is expected to coordinate day-to-day functioning, communication, and organizational activities of the body.
In another key appointment, Dr. Ashiq Hussain Parrey, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, has been elected as Joint Secretary, while Dr. Nisar Ahmad Naikoo, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry, will serve as the Treasurer, overseeing financial matters of the Association.
For representation of senior teaching faculty, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Dar, Professor of Chest Medicine, has been elected as the Professor Representative, reflecting broad support from the clinical departments.
The elections also included category-wise representation. Two Associate Professors were chosen as Associate Professor Representatives:
• Dr. Javed Ahmad Khan, Associate Professor of Anatomy
• Dr. Junain Nabi, Associate Professor of Psychiatry
For Assistant Professors, Dr. Altaf Hussain Malik, Assistant Professor, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (GDC), was elected as the Assistant Professor Representative, ensuring participation from the Dental College segment as well.
The newly elected representatives have pledged to work “sincerely for the benefit of the faculty and the institution,” the press note stated. Their collective responsibilities will include promoting academic excellence, addressing faculty concerns, strengthening departmental coordination, and supporting institutional development initiatives.
The formation of the new MFA body is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing academic standards, faculty welfare, and administrative transparency at GMC and Dental College Srinagar—institutions that collectively cater to thousands of medical and dental students across Jammu & Kashmir.
