The Govt Degree college, Baramulla, kickstarted the World Environment Week Celebrations with a National Webinar on the theme ‘Clean is the New green’ titled ‘Vermitechnology-A promising Approach for Solid Waste Management’ on 5th June, 2022. Dr. Sunil Kumar, Senior Principal Scientist and Head, Solid waste reprocessing Division unit, CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur, Maharashtra was the invited speaker.

The speaker talked in length about the vermitechnology and its and advancements. He talked about the requirements of establishing a successful vermicompost unit as well as the provision of training students in it for establishment of successful entrepreneurship units. The principal, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Farooq Rather, in his welcome address welcomed students, faculty as well as civil society to come up with their innovative ideas to making a better tomorrow for the future generations with the use of clean technologies. Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, Head, Department of Physics, ensured that the college shall pioneer in the student and faculty exchange with various institutions of repute for training and research.

The session was brainstorming and was followed by a number of queries and collaboration requests by the faculty and students of various institutions.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Humaira Qadri, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences and was collaborated by the Department of computer Sciences and Department of Chemistry. Dr. Syed Mutahar Aqib moderated the proceedings of the webinar.

This year the college is focussing on Solid waste management and in this regard has also invited innovative ideas for solid waste management from students of all Kashmir division colleges.

The college shall provide all the facilities for seeding and developing the idea into a marketable technology.
