Govt direction to relieve teachers from offices shelved

‘Blue-eyed teachers continue to do non-teaching jobs at DSEK’

Srinagar, Dec 12 : Blue eyed teachers continue to handle non-teaching jobs at the directorate despite the strict directions from the government to relieve all the teachers from offices at zonal and district level including some sections of directorate of school education Kashmir (DSEK).

According to wire service—, the DSEK earlier ordered for relieving all teachers from offices at district level and cells of directorate but around a dozen ‘blue eyed’ teachers continue doing non-teaching assignments from past more than five years. Also, an influential lot of teachers is doing job of data entry operators while as others are doing clerical jobs at zonal and district offices.

Earlier, DSEK issued a circular to the chief education officers and directed them to relive the teaching staff from their offices and zonal education offices. “But some teachers continue to enjoy their prolonged stint in zonal and district offices including in some cells at Directorate.

These teachers have managed to remain away from schools and enjoy non-teaching works in offices,” the official told.

The official said that scores of circulars were issued from time to time by the directorate which however witnessed poor implementation on ground, given the influence of some teachers in higher echelons.

“This is not the first time when circular was issued for detachment of teachers from offices but such circulars were issued in past as well. Ironically, influential teachers manage to continue their spell in offices rather than teaching students in schools,” the official said.

In 2018, then DSEK G N Itoo issued around four circulars and directed CEOs and ZEOs to relieve the teaching staff from their offices. “But CEOs didn’t implement the orders citing that they need computer knowing teachers in offices rather than in schools,” the official said.

He further said the reason for deputing teachers in offices was because of the fact that almost all non-teaching posts in offices at CEO an ZEO level are unfilled from past many years which forces the department to depute the teachers in offices. “Under these conditions, the schools are rendered without adequate staff which adversely affects the academics in schools,” the official said.

Recently, the directorate of school education Kashmir put forth the issue in the department citing that the keeping non-teaching posts vacant in offices increases the work load on the available staff.

“But no initiative was taken by the administrative department in this regard. Amid this sluggishness at the administrative level, the influential teachers continue to stay away from schools and continue managing non-teaching jobs in offices,” the official said.

Secretary school education department, Sarita Chauhan was not available for her comments despite repeated attempts. (KNO)
