Gupkar Declaration Will Be The Cornerstone Of Future Politics in J&K: JKPM

Srinagar, September 5: J&K Peoples Movement (JKPM) has said that Gupkar Declaration will be the cornerstone of future politics in J&K.

In a press release JKPM Senior Vice-President Advocate Syed Iqbal Tahir said that the joint resolution of political parties of J&K including JKPM that are signatory to Gupkar Declaration has set into motion the political opposition for abrogation of Article 370 & 35A. He said that for the signatories of the Gupkar Declaration to emerge as a strong ‘united front’, it is important that all the signatories rise to the occasion and defy any misgivings about such political cooperation.

JKPM senior vice-president further said that in the history of J&K there have been alliances in the past but post Aug 2019 it is a completely different situation and there are no parallels in the past.”Mainstream leadership has never been undermined the way it has been undermined today”, he said in the press release.

He said that there is a need to build a narrative in the country for the restoration of special status of J&K and the signatories must reach out to political parties & intellectuals across the country in this regard. The signatories must use all democratic, legal and peaceful means to achieve the objectives of the Gupkar Declaration.

He also mentioned that while the petitions filed by JKPM and other signatories challenging the abrogation of Article 370 &35A are pending before the Hon’ble Supreme Court, JKPM was fully hopeful of receiving justtice from the top court of the country.
