SDA Issues Safety Advisory Amid Flash Flood, Landslide Threat

Ganderbal, July 23: Authorities have temporarily closed the Thajiwas tourist destination in Sonamarg for two days following continuous rainfall and the growing threat of flash floods and landslides, officials said on Thursday.
The decision was taken by the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of tourists and visitors in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
According to the advisory issued by the Chief Executive Officer of the Sonamarg Development Authority, all movement of tourists and visitors towards the Thajiwas area will remain suspended during the closure period.
Officials urged tourists and the general public not to visit the area and to strictly follow advisories issued by the district administration and other concerned departments.
The advisory has been circulated to the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal and Director Tourism Kashmir for necessary action to ensure effective enforcement of the restrictions.
Authorities said the temporary closure will remain in force until conditions become safe for public movement and appealed for full public cooperation in the interest of safety.
