Srinagar, April 5, Former IAS officer Shah Faesal is still under custody while a lot of photographs on social media are making rounds in which kids can be seen with placards seeking the release of Shah Faesal.

These placards read, “What actually is his crime”, “Dr. Shah Faesal is my role model,” “Uncle Faesal is my hero,” “Release him immediately,” “Hello Mr. Modi, can you please send Shah Faesal Uncle home now.”

These photographs which are viral have attracted the attention of netizens who also are demanding the release of Shah Faesal.

 The mother and the wife of Shah Faesal talked to news agency and urged Government of India to release him in wake of the Covid-19 threat.

“What is the fault of my son and why he has been kept in detention? My son never things ill of anyone and he has not committed any crime,” said Mubeena, the mother of Shah Faesal.

  She added that the political space for everyone in Kashmir has shrunk.

  Irim-the spouse of Shah Faesal told news agency that she had never imagined that after leaving a lucrative job, her husband would land in jail for the fault of his none. “I am shocked and stunned. Since August last year my husband is under detention as if he is a criminal. We were expecting his release but are disappointed,” she said.

 Shah Faesal is a former IAS officer and head of Jammu & Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) party. He has been in preventive custody under Section 107 of the CrPC Since August 14 last year and subsequently, he was booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).

Shah Faesal has joined the list of leaders booked under the PSA in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Sartaj Madani, Hilal Lone, and Nayeem Akhtar have also been booked under Public Safety Act.

Faesal has currently lodged at MLA Hostel Srinagar that authorities created into a sub-jail.  PDP’s Prizada Mansoor and Hilal Akbar Lone are also lodged at the MLA Hostel.

 “What is his fault, he joined mainstream to work for the people and when people like him are not spared and targeted then you know the fate of common men,” wrote a netizen on Facebook while reacting to a post that demanded the release of Shah Faesal.

Hailing from Sogam Lolab,in 2009, Shah Faesal became the first Kashmiri to place first in the Indian Civil Services Examination. He resigned from the Indian bureaucracy in protest on 9 January 2019, citing “unabated killings” in Kashmir among other things. On 16 March 2019 he launched his own political party and called it the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM).

Shah Faesal is a 2008 batch graduate of the Jhelum Valley Medical College. He holds an MBBS degree from Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar as well as has a master’s degree in Urdu. (KNT)
