To suggest amendments in rules, bye-laws

Srinagar, June 10 : Authorities in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have constituted a high-level committee to examine the gaps in the legal framework for sanitation and suggest recommendations thereof.
An order in possession of news agency- reveals that a committee comprising officials of Housing and Urban Development department has been formed to examine the gaps in the existing legal framework dealing with various types of wastes and suggest amendments in the existing rules/Byelaws and enactment of news Rules/Byelaws.
The committee comprises of Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Srinagar/ Jammu, Director Urban Local Bodies and Special Secretary (Law, Housing & Urban Development Department). The committee has been constituted by Housing & Urban Development Department on May 20.
It is worthwhile to mention here that J&K government has framed rules for management for different types of wastes in the past few years.
In 2016 and 2018, the government came up respectively with Solid Waste Management Rules and “Model Solid Waste Management Bye-laws.”
The rules mandate the source segregation of waste in order to channelise the waste to wealth by recovery, reuse and recycle –(KNO)
