Higher reaches of Kashmir witnesses fresh snowfall, rains lash plains

Baramulla, Nov 14 : The higher reaches of Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall on Friday night, even as rains lashed plains of the valley.

An official told Kashmir Despatch that the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received fresh snowfall during the night.

He said there are reports of snowfall in other areas in the higher reaches of the valley, including Sonamarg and Gurez.

He said that rains lashed plains in parts of Kashmir.

Pertinently, MeT earleir had issued a weather advisory which reads, an active Western Disturbance is most likely to affect the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and adjoining areas from 13′ (evening) to 15′ (late night) November 2020.

Under the influence of this weather system, Widespread Moderate Rain/snow is expected in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions. Light rain/snow would commence at a few places of Kashmir on 13th (night) and thereafter increase in intensity & distribution with its peak during le & 15° november and gradual decrease thereafter. Main activity of this system, moderate to heavy rain/snow at isolated places is most likely during 14th & 15th november.

The system is likely to cause heavy rain/snow mainly in upper reaches of Kashmir (Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Baramulla, Bandipora (Gurez & Tulail Valley) and Kupwara (Karnah Sector), Shopian, Qazigund-Banihal axis, Pirpanjal Range of Jammu Division, Drass (Gumri & Minamarg) and Zanskar subdivision of ladakh UT.
