Hizb commander Saifullah killed in Srinagar gunfight

Srinagar, Nov 02: Hizbul Mujahideen Operational Chief Saifullah was killed in a gunfight with government forces in Rangreth in the outskirts of Srinagar on Sunday while a suspect was arrested at the encounter site.

Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar said that on the basis of a specific lead, joint teams of police and CRPF laid a cordon at Rangreth area and later army also joined in the operation.

IGP said that Saifullah was killed in the encounter adding that a suspect and not the militant was arrested at the encounter site who is being questioned.

“Saifullah’s killing is a big achievement for security forces. He had taken over the reins of Hizb after the killing of its chief Reyaz Naikoo in an encounter in May this year,” he said.

Director General of Police (DGP) , Dilbag Singh while terming Saifullah’s killing as a big success for forces, said that he took over Hizb after Riyaz Naikoos killing and was eliminated in police operation in Srinagar city on a hard intelligence generated by police.

“He was the person behind the killing of three bjp workers two days back,” the DGP said

Who was Saifullah

A Hizbul Mujahideen militant commander Saifullah was an ‘A category’ militant and had mostly been active in south Kashmir districts of Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian.

As per official details available with Kashmir Despatch , Saifullah Mir, known as Musaib and ‘Doctor Saif’ because he would treat militants injured in encounters, was a class 12th pass out from Malangpora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Saifullah Mir alias Ghazi Haider, the 26-year-old had joined the militant ranks in 2014 and was currently the Hizbul Mujahideen’s operational Chief in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per top police officials Saifullah Mir opted for vocational training after school.

The top police officer said that once he completed bioscience course at the government-run ITI in Pulwama, Saifullah got a job at Srinagar’s National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology as a technician. He continued with the job for three years before Riyaz Naikoo finally had his way and motivated him to join militant outfit .

As per reports, Saifullah was the last surviving militant photographed with Burhan Wani. Now reportedly Burhan Wani group has been technically and officially wiped out.
