SRINAGAR, Jan 24: Irrigation and Flood Control Department Coordination Committee on Tuesday held a massive protest demonstration against what they allege the character assassination of clerical staff of their direction office and physical assault on a senior official by a name sake retired union leader.
The joint protest programme according to a press release issued to Kashmir Despatch was organized by the Irrigation and Flood Control Employees Coordination Committee was headed by Jeelani Naik and his co associates at Engineering Complex Rajbagh Srinagar.
The protestors demanded a strict action against the accused Farooq Ahmad Khan who has allegedly assaulted and abused the Clerical Staff of the Direction office and also went further for character assassination of Head Assistant of the Direction office by giving fabricated and baseless press releases which are highly condemnable.
They alleged that the said person is following his own case for correction of Date of Birth and as per the JK CSR, any request for correction of Date of Birth after five Years of Services is beyond the competence of HOD and an approval in this regard is to be issued by the Administrative Department.
They said that as ascertained from the records, the case for correction of DOB has already been recommended by the Chief Engineer, I&FC (Jal Shakti) Department, Srinagar with positive recommendations but the said person is trying to use name of employees for his vested interests and trying to compel the Chief Engineer and staff to exercise powers beyond their control by issuing such vicious press releases.
The president said that they respect all trade and have high regard for all trade leaders but at the same time it is unacceptable that any person will use trade to target Clerical Cadre for his vested interests.
They alleged that It is not for the first time that the said person is involved in such abusive practices but he often misbehaves with the staff of the Department and uses vulgar language to address them.
The Protesting employees demanded strict action against the said person and also against the Casual Labours who were accompanying him on the fateful day.
“We don’t believe in the path of confrontation but the very condemnable incident has compelled us to close our offices and raise our voice here.”
All employees of Irrigation and FC Department having joint platform I&FC Employees Coordination Committee are assembled under one banner and are not in need of any such representative who is already retired from the Government Services years together.
“Our issues are resolved amicably by the worthy Chief Engineer and we are highly thankful for his timely decision and disposal of service matters of employees of the Department”, they added.
Lateef Ahmad Bhat, President Irrigation Patwari Association, Syed Muzaffer Ahmad, Chairman Mechanical Irrigation Employees Conference, Arshid Hussain Khanday, President Irrigation Works Supervisors Union, Imran Parray and Mohammad Ayoub Khan, President Irrigation & Flood Control Casual Labours Union, Sajad Ahmad Bhat, President Seasonal Labours Union, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Ali Mohammad Rather, were present in the protest.
