Dooru, 04 March : Taking serious notice of alleged illegal mining of the sand and stone from riverbeds, the district administration today seized atleast seven vehicles comprising 2 JCB’s, 4 Tipper, and a Tractor which allegedly were engaged in illegal mining of sand during a raid conducted in Shankerpora area of Anantnag.
Officials sources told Kashmir Despatch following the direction of District administration a team of Geology and Mining escorted by the police reached to the spot (Shankerpora) locality of Dooru where some people were allegedly mining sand and stone illegally.
“However sensing trouble on seeing administrative officials escorted by police contingent, the owner and drivers of the vehicles involved in illegal mining escaped from the spot abandoning their vehicles behind, officials added.
“Anybody found carrying the seized material will be dealt strictly,” Zulufkar Mohammad Shafi, district Mining and Geology officer, Anantnag, told.
He said they had received the several complaints regarding the illegal extraction of sand and stone in the Nallah and they carried a special raid to seize the illegal material.
It is pertinent to mention that illegal extraction on the Nallah was going unabated from past years and the same was going during daylight with heavy machines.
