Sopore, August 15 : For the first time since the Independence of India, Block Development Council chairpersons have unfurled Tri colour in parts of Kashmir.
As per Kashmir Despatch the development comes after the administration amended rules to give Block Development Council chairpersons a status equivalent to that of an Army Brigadier.
Reports reaching this newspaper said In Sopore BDC Sopore Dr. Fareeda Khan unfurled the Tri colour during the Independence Day function here in Sopore here on Saturday.
Similar reports reaching from other parts of Kashmir also where BDC chairpersons have unfurled Tri colour on the eve of independence day.
According to the warrant of precedence issued by the Hospitality and Protocol Department of Jammu and Kashmir last month, BDC chairpersons have been placed at serial number 28.
They are placed alongside district magistrates, district and sessions judge, major heads of departments, presidents of municipal committees and municipal councils and officers of the rank of brigadier.
The precedence is meant for state and ceremonial occasions, the notification read.
