In absence of Standing Counsels government departments left defenseless

Date:

No new Counsel appointed after disengaging all by the Administration in August

Srinagar, 03 Oct, :  Jammu and Kashmir Law Department has miserably not engaged Standing Counsels for last more than two months, creating a problem to various government departments to defend them, in different Courts of J&K.

Reliable sources told that non availability of Standing Counsel in J&K state is hitting the proceedings of the government cases in different Courts of J&K state, as the law department has failed to re-engage Counsels for government, due to which the government cases pending before courts are suffering badly.

Sources told that there are a large number of cases, presently pending before district & subordinate courts of state against government departments, which are suffer due to non availability of counsels.

Sources further told that different government departments of  Kashmir valley have written dozens of letters to law secretary, with the request to engage standing counsels for their respective departments at district or sub-divisional levels to defend their cases, but till date no reply has been received by them from law department so far, nor have counsels been engaged due to which proceedings in various govt cases are disposed in expartee.

In August 2019 governor administration disengaged all the standing counsels in J&K and after that no new counsel has been engaged to defend government cases before courts. (CNS)
