SRINAGAR, Dec 18: Following the abrogation of Article 370, there has been a significant decline in terror incidents in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources informed Kashmir Despatch that the changing scenario in the region has not only witnessed substantial development but has also led to a drastic reduction in terror incidents, with the latest figures indicating that only 896 incidents have been reported over the past five years.
The official sources reveals a considerable decrease in terror-related violence, with the number dropping to 896 in the post-abrogation period.
Sources disclosed to Kashmir Despatch that there has been only one strike (or Bandh) in the last five years. It is important to note that the region has been under the rule of the Lieutenant Governor during this time, which may have contributed to the decline. Additionally, organized stone-pelting incidents have plummeted from 6,563 in the pre-abrogation era to just 776 during the past 1,945 days since the change in status.
Earlier this week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also noted that for the first time in 33 years, over 2 crore (20 million) pilgrims visited Jammu and Kashmir.
He highlighted that cinemas have reopened in the region after a 30-year hiatus and that a Muharram procession took place for the first time in over three decades. Shah remarked that the level of investment in Jammu and Kashmir over the past five years, following the abrogation of Article 370, has been comparable to the total amount received in the region during the previous 75 years since independence, which he believes indicates a prevailing sense of peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
