Inclusion of IB in ALC quota

Inclusion of IB in ALC quota

The decision taken by the Governor led government in Jammu and Kashmir to include inhabitants of International Border (IB) in Actual Line of Control (ALC) quota is not only as irrational but unjustified as well.

Fist the timing of this decision seems to be politically motivated and second the decision will affect the prospectus of the inhabitants of LoC who were actually the beneficiaries of the three per  cent reservation under ALC quota sofar,

Covering the inhabitants of the three districts of Jammu region living on international border in the ALC quota is in a way doing injustice with the already suffering economically backward class living on LoC.

The people living on international border in Jammu region have suffered immensely in terms of socio-economic and educational benefits and mostly because of their least representation in the administration of the state.

The lack of access to better education and other parameters of social empowerment had deprived the inhabitants of border areas of their rights. But the decision to include them to ALC quota is creating an additional burden on the people with ALC category.

The government should have considered the recommendations of the Backward Classes Commission that has recommended four per cent reservation for the people living along international border.
