Srinagar, June 16 : As hostilities between Iran and Israel intensify, the Indian government has begun relocating Indian students, including those from Jammu and Kashmir, from high-risk zones in Iran.
The Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging swift evacuation of hundreds of Kashmiri students stranded in Iranian cities like Tehran and Qom, amid growing security concerns.
The JKSA expressed alarm over recent drone strikes and military activity that have left students traumatized. Two Kashmiri students were reportedly injured in a drone attack near Tehran University of Medical Sciences, though both are now stable and shifted to Ramsar, a safer location.
Many students, pursuing medical degrees due to Iran’s affordable education system, now find themselves in active conflict zones. Describing scenes of airstrike sirens, tremors, and missile activity, they are facing psychological distress, while families back home remain anxious.
Responding to India’s request, the Iranian government has agreed to assist in evacuating Indian citizens, confirming that while airspace remains shut, land borders are open for safe passage.
The Indian Embassy in Iran has issued advisories, urging nationals to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement. Emergency contact numbers have also been shared for assistance.
