Bandipora, Jan 24: A potential tragedy was averted in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday after the Indian Army carried out a swift rescue operation to recover a vehicle that skidded off a snow-covered road in the Nowpora area.
Reports reaching said that a Bolero vehicle bearing registration number JK01 BB 9101 lost control after hitting black ice, locally referred to as black snow, and slipped off the roadside amid slippery conditions. The driver, identified as Shoib Rehmat, a resident of Bandipora, was travelling through the area when the incident occurred.
Soon after the accident, locals informed the nearby Bandipora Army Camp, seeking immediate assistance. Army personnel responded promptly, mobilising recovery equipment and reaching the spot within minutes.
The troops secured the area, ensured the safety of the driver and launched a coordinated recovery operation using standard safety protocols. The vehicle was later pulled back onto the road without any casualties or further damage, officials said.
Officials said timely intervention prevented the situation from escalating in the difficult weather conditions prevailing in the area. “Our teams are on standby to assist civilians during emergencies, especially during winter when road accidents increase due to snow and ice,” the official added.
Authorities have advised motorists to drive cautiously in snow-bound areas, particularly during early morning and late evening hours when black ice makes roads extremely slippery.
