Safe, Accountable Digital Platforms Essential for Protecting Societal Trust
Delhi, Nov 20:
Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Communications & Electronics & IT, and Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, today addressed a ministerial session at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore, highlighting India’s economic strength and approach to responsible digital governance.
He said that India is entering a long period of high growth supported by moderate inflation, policy stability and ease of doing business. He underlined that investors today value predictable policies and strong institutional capacity, which India is consistently delivering.
Shri Vaishnaw stressed that digital platforms must protect societal trust and cannot remain neutral when misinformation, deepfakes and synthetic content harm democratic institutions. He cautioned that “trust between citizens and institutions is the foundation of any society, and digital distortions are weakening that trust.”
He explained that India follows a techno-legal approach to digital governance, combining legal accountability, user protection and technological tools. He urged global cooperation to ensure that platforms operating across borders are equally responsible for safety and trust.
He concluded that India’s model combines growth, technology and governance, with a focus on inclusivity, trust and accountability.
