Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship Centre GDC Baramulla Hosts Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights and IP Management for Start-ups

Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship Centre (IIE) at Government Degree College Baramulla hosted a one-day workshop today on “Intellectual Property Rights and IP Management for Start-ups.”

The workshop, held at the college’s Innovation Centre, aimed to educate students and faculty about the significance of intellectual property rights (IPR) and its management for start-up ventures.

With an active participation of over 60 students and faculty members, the workshop commenced with an inauguration ceremony led by Dr. Mohd Farooq Rather, the esteemed principal of the College.

Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Tantray, Co-Convener of the IIE Committee, introduced the speaker for the event, Dr. Syed Ovais, and provided a brief overview of his expertise in IPR-related matters.

Dr. Ovais commenced the workshop by providing an extensive insight into intellectual property rights and the relevant laws.

He highlighted the need and importance of protecting intellectual properties such as patents, copyright, trademarks, designs, and trade secrets in the context of managing a start-up business.

Furthermore, Dr. Ovais shed light on the functions of a patent facilitator and elucidated on how start-ups can benefit from the Scheme for Intellectual Property Protection (SIPP).

The speaker emphasized the advantages of patenting, the patent filing process, and the overall management of intellectual property for budding entrepreneurs.

The session concluded with a vibrant question-and-answer segment, where students and faculty members posed various queries, which were attentively addressed by Dr. Ovais.

The event reached its culmination with concluding remarks from Dr. Saleem Farooq, the Convener of the Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship (IIE) Committee.

The one-day workshop proved to be an enriching experience for the participants, equipping them with a deeper understanding of intellectual property rights and their management in the start-up ecosystem.

The organizers expressed their gratitude to Dr. Ovais for his insightful session, and the attendees left with valuable knowledge that would undoubtedly benefit them in their entrepreneurial endeavors.
