International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women observed by SAKHI – One Stop Centre Bandipora with great flair

BANDIPORA, November 25:- SAKHI- One Stop Centre Bandipora, J&K today observed International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women at it’s conference hall at Bandipora. During the said programme, programme a good number of participants from various areas including students, ICDS workers, ASHA Workers and Social activists participated with great enthusiasm and were informed about gender based violence and some gender inequalities and other assault cases.


Miss Ishrat Ayoub, Centre Administrator, SAKHI – One Stop Centre, Bandipora, while sharing her experience of dealing with Violence cases said that every violence based case seems similar to a common person but when we analyze these cases, no one violence based case is same. Every case has different story and every issue has different faces, which poses a great threat to the society and to women folk of the society in context to violence aspects. “Though these cases seems similar but the level of violence and the way of assailant tells different stories,” Ishrat added.


Centre Administrator, OSC, Miss Ishrat Ayoub highlighted and appreciated the performance of the district administration in implementing women centric welfare schemes that are aimed at providing hand-holding to the women to make them self-reliant and appreciated the role of government and district administration Bandipora for their all type support, coordination and cooperation in every aspect with special focus on cleanliness at work culture.


Speaking about the services available at One Stop Centre to fight violence, Miss Shahida Bashir, ITP OSC said that One Stop Centre is playing a great role in supporting and encouraging the women folk of the society to come forward for the fight against violence. It was highlighted that services from Psycho-social Counselling to police assistance , legal services to short stay shelters, medical facility to emergency responses and all women related support facilities are being provided free of cost at One Stop Centre, Bandipora.


Speaking on the sidelines of the programme, Miss Afshana Hassan, Psycho-Social Counsellor, OSC siad that this day us being observed every year on 25th November and the aim of celebrating this day is to make women aware of various means to fight against violence and to make them ready to break the silence to end the violence. Afshana mentioned that district administration made SAKHI – One Stop Centre functional at Nishat Park Bandipora that aims to provide an array of services from medical, legal to psychological assistance to violence affected women under one roof. She said that the centre is exclusively for women and is being run by the female staff to serve the women in distress.


While mentioning role of OSC, she added “OSC provides an interface for affected women to approach the government for availing their entitlements and empowering them through redressal of various violences.


During the said programme, staff of SAKHI – One Stop Centre Bandipora took pledge to fight against violence and to give their best to end violence against women. The programmes were hailed and highly appreciated by the participants.
