International Girl Child Day celebrated in Bandipora

Bandipora, Oct 11: SAKHI –  District Administration Bandipora in colloberstion with Sakhi one stop Centere Bandipora  on Tuesday organised a day long function to celebrate International Girl Child Day with the aim of sensitising the masses regarding the importance of girl children at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Bandipora.

The programme was organised by MISSION SHAKTI SAKHI-One Stop Centre, Bandipora as per Action Plan of Special Campaign 2.0 of the Ministry of Women and Child Development,GoI under the noble supervision of Dr. Owais Ahmad IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora in collaboration with the District Administration, Bandipora, Department of Society Welfare, Bandipora, and the Departments of POSHAN, Education, and Health, Bandipora.

The programme was attended by officials from various departments like education, Mission SHAKTI, POSHAN etc., members of the Women’s Committee, BBBP, teachers, girl students from various educational institutions of the district, ICDS workers, and female employees of various departments.

On the occasion, Mr. Bashir Ahmad Mir, Vice Principal, GGHS, Bandipora, said that the female folk must realise their importance and role in society. He said, the girls who have achieved success in various fields of life must act as ambassadors to guide other girls to utilise their potential in the proper way. 
He said girls are important stakeholders in society and it is our collective responsibility to take care of girl children for the empowerment of women. 

While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Nadvi, teacher, GGHS, Bandipora, highlighted the objectives of the programme and said we must encourage girls for the socio-economical and political development of society.

On the said occasion, Miss Afshana Hassan,Psycho-Social Counselor, One Stop Centre, Bandipora, deliberated that every year on October 11, the International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated. On this day, UNICEF launches an annual campaign with girls to amplify their voices and stand up for their rights. This year, under the theme, “Our Time Is Now — Our Rights, Our Future.”, let’s seize the opportunity to reimagine a better world inspired by adolescent girls – energised and recognised, counted and invested in. As adolescent girls worldwide assert their power as change-makers, International Day of the Girl 2022 will focus on their demands to “Live free from gender-based violence, harmful practices, Learn new skills towards the futures they choose; and Lead as a generation of activists accelerating social change. 
On the occasion, Shabnum Shaban, AC, OSC Bandipora, said, “We at Sakhi One Stop Centre Bandipora are regularly dealing with women’s issues , most of them being violence-based cases and some gender inequality, besides cyber crime and other assault cases. Every violence-based case seems similar to a common person, but when we analyse these, no one violence-based case is the same. Every case has a different story, and every issue has different faces. Though these cases seem similar, the level of violence and the manner of the assailant tell different stories. One gets shocked at learning to what extent our society has degraded itself! ” She added

During the said event, many students from the Girls Higher Secondary, Bandipora, namely Mir Maliha, Rabiya Raheem, Rather Soliha, etc., enumerated different topics related to International Girl Child Day and Girls are Pearls, etc., whereas Sadaf Ameer deliberated the importance of observing International Girl Child Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Miss Jameela Akhter, Joint Secretary, JKSWM, said, “The success or failure of women’s related strategy at the gross-root level depends upon the active participation in the decision-making process.” “If the goal of women’s equality has to be achieved, then people’s, especially women’s, participation is a pre-requisite for it,” she added to his speech as concluding remarks.  
A warm vote of thanks to all the participants and to the District Administration Bandipora was presented by Mr. Mohammad Amin, Teacher, GGHSS, Bandipora in a beautiful and cordial manner, while the entire programme was hosted as Dice In Charge by Miss Mehnaza Rasool, CW, OSC, Bandipora with her beautiful and soothing anchoring.

The programme was highly appreciated and lauded by all the participants, who hope that with the vision and mission of District Administration, Bandipora about women related issues, the girls really see a new horizon of hope –Our Time Is Now — Our Rights, Our Future. “.
