International Yoga Day-2022’ celebrations held across Kashmir

SRINAGAR, JUNE 21: On the eighth edition of ‘International Day of Yoga’-2022 (IDY), functions/ celebrations were held across Kashmir division to mark the day and raise awareness of the many benefits of practicing yoga.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioners, other officers and officials besides youth, students and public were seen performing yoga during symbolic yoga sessions in all the districts of Kashmir.

The theme of this year’s IDY is ‘Yoga for Humanity’. Yoga has been beneficial in keeping the body and mind in sound health. A holistic approach, Yoga targets all the different systems of the body and mind. It is said that the asanas make the body strong and flexible, as health improves; the mind too is renewed with confidence.

At Baramulla, the International Yoga day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal with the main function held at Indoor Sports Stadium Baramulla in which a large number of school children participated.

The function was organized by District Youth Services and Sports Baramulla with an active collaboration of Degree College Baramulla. 

The function was attended by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar as the chief guest and other dignitaries of concerned departments.

On the occasion, a variety of Yoga activities were performed by the students which gained quite applause from the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the importance of celebrating Yoga day and said that Yoga helps on all aspects of a person, including physical, mental, psychic, and spiritual levels. 

Further highlighting the importance of Yoga in the lives of people, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar said that through physical and mental discipline, Yoga helps to achieve a peaceful body and mind and facilitates managing stress and anxiety.

She urged people in general and students in particular to imbibe Yoga in their daily routine so as to maintain their mental and physical well being.

At Budgam, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza today participated in the International Yoga Day function held at Indoor Stadium Budgam, where hundreds of youth joined the training sessions.

The function was organized jointly by Nehru Yuva Kendra Budgam and the Department of Youth Service and Sports Budgam in collaboration with the Department of Ayush and Education.

As many as 350 both male and female participants took part with great enthusiasm and zeal.

DC Budgam Shahbaz Mirza, who was the chief Guest on the occasion, highlighted the importance of yoga for both physical endurance and mental wellbeing. He said that everyone should be involved and learn Yoga to practice it routinely for good health.

He appreciated organizers for making adequate arrangements. The different Yoga Asanas were performed under the guidance of Yoga experts.

International Yoga Day was also celebrated at different 12 Physical Education Zones Headquarters of the district with great fervor and enthusiasm in which around 6350 participants have taken part and practiced different Yoga Asanas.

At Ganderbal, the International Yoga Day was observed throughout the district during which several Yoga sessions were held at various locations.

The main function was held in Government College of Physical Education (GCPE) Gadoora which was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shyambir along with Additional District Development Commissioner, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Dr. Hartej Singh, Principal Government College of Physical Education besides various District Officers, officials and students attended the Yoga session.

The DC in his address highlighted that Yoga brings peace, wellness, harmony, amity to our culture & society and enlightened the benefits of Yoga in daily life.

He said Yoga is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity. It helps us to build up psycho-physiological health, and emotional harmony and enables people to live happy lives, he added.

Meanwhile, District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal in collaboration with Vijay Memorial Educational Institute Beehama Ganderbal also observed “International Yoga Day” here. 

The programme was held under the guidance and dynamic leadership of Tabasum, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal.

 The programme was attended by Principal Vijay Memorial Educational Institute Beehama Ganderbal Staff Members, PLV of DLSAs and Students of the institution.

At Pulwama, the Department of Youth Services and Sports today organized the celebration of International Yoga Day at Hockey Turf, Boys Higher Secondary School Pulwama.

The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary, SSP Awantipora, and all District Officers, public, students and employees whereas symbolic yoga demonstrations were performed at DPL, Distt Hospital, Distt Correctional Home, Quarantine Centres, Orphanage Centre and Social Welfare office.

Speaking on the occasion, DC said that Yoga is a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body and is an invaluable ancient Indian practice with proven benefits on general health and immunity enhancement, along with its globally accepted role as a stress buster.           

He said that Yoga is an internationally acclaimed practice and connects the physical self with spiritual self. He added that the different asanas are effective in coordinating the sense organs and results in better health outcomes without any economic input.

The live demonstration started exactly at 7 ‘O’ clock in the morning from Hockey Turf, Boys Higher Secondary School Pulwama.

Earlier, the Department of Youth Services and Sports during the week-long programme imparted the awareness of the day to General public and urged them to connect with the programme for performing Yoga Asanas at their homes.

Similar functions were organized in respective subdivisions like Tral and Awantipora where Additional Deputy Commissioners participated in the event.

At Shopian, the International Yoga Day was today celebrated across Shopian district with the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya presiding over the main event held at District Headquarter, Mini Secretariat Lawns.

The Yoga sessions at district level were organised by Youth Services Sports Department, Shopian in collaboration with Department of Education and Ayush, Shopian and was attended by District Officers, staff of different departments, students and locals.

Speaking on the occasion, DC highlighted the importance and informed about the benefits of doing Yoga regularly. He said that it sets the union of mind, body and soul and thereby improves concentration and effectiveness in daily activities.

He advised all participants to practice Yoga on a daily basis to maintain their physical and mental well-being and spread awareness about its benefits among the people.

Vaishya further told the participants about how Yoga remains helpful in wiping out the person’s stress.

The participants performed Yoga asanas under the guidance of Yoga instructors at different venues of the district, including SDM office Zainpora, Tehsil offices, schools, Anganwadi centres and other government institutions and offices.

Imtiyaz Memorial Govt. Degree College, Shopain also conducted a Yoga session which was attended by staff and students of the college.

At Kulgam, the International Yoga Day-2022 was celebrated across district Kulgam with the main function held at the lawns of the mini-secretariat, Kulgam.

The Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi Ud-Din Bhat;  SSP Kulgam, Dr G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, officers and officials of various departments, students of various schools/institutions participated in the Yoga sessions.

On the occasion participants performed different Yoga Asanas and were also briefed about the benefits of yoga which is a great practice for both the body and mind.

Yoga sessions were also held at schools and other institutions in the district.

At Kupwara, the International Yoga Diwas was today celebrated across district Kupwara with the main function held at Government Degree College Kupwara.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir presided over the function, while as Principal, Government Degree College Kupwara, District Ayush Officer and various other officers of District Administration attended the function.

The DC, on the occasion, threw light on the scientific values of yoga and its benefits for the betterment of one’s mental, physical and spiritual well-being. He stressed the need for adopting Yoga as part of every individual’s activity. 

Khalid Jahangir asked School Administrations to make Yoga as a regular activity in all educational institutions of the district.

The DC assured all possible support from District Administration to promote Yoga activities in the district. 

The function was organised by District Ayush Officer Kupwara in collaboration with District Administration. 

Yoga Diwas was also celebrated in all educational institutions of Kupwara district in which students participated enthusiastically.

At Bandipora, International Yoga Day was celebrated across Bandipora district on Tuesday as special Yoga sessions were held in all playgrounds and educational institutions.

The Department of Ayush Bandipora in collaboration with the District Administration and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organised a grand function at Mini-Secretariat Bandipora to celebrate the International Day of Yoga.

Students, officers and officials from Ayush, District Youth Services and Sports, Forest Training School Cadets and District Yoga Asana Academy participated in the programme.

Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed was chief guest on the occasion.

Nodal Officer ISM Dr. Reyaz Ahmad Khan, Faisal Ali (Padma Shri awardee) and officers and officials from District Administration were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Owais explained this year’s Yoga day theme “Yoga for Humanity” and importance of yoga in reducing the sufferings of people. He said Yoga helps in maintaining physical and mental health.

The participants pledged to bring yoga into their daily lives. Medals and certificates were distributed among the students who got gold, bronze, and silver medals in the state yogasana championship from Bandipora district.

 The DC also appreciated the Dept of Ayush Bandipora for organising the event.

Similar sessions were held across the district in all the educational institutions including GDC Ajas, GDC Sumbal, sports stadiums and government offices where large gatherings of students, government officials and locals participated.
