While the health care system across the country is grappling with the vicious Covid-19 second wave, the experts have raised alarm over the initiation of a much deadlier Third Wave which can be more contagious and fatal than the current one.
The analogy can be drawn with the 1918 Spanish flu that in the exact fashion of Covid-19 swept through the whole globe with three virulent waves that killed nearly fifty million people.
The health experts speculate that Covid-19 has the same potential as that of Spanish flu to cause more fatalities than any other contagion faced by humanity in the recent past.
The new wave has undoubtedly made our health care system to kneel on its knees wherein the scarce supply of oxygen and life-saving drugs is wreaking further havoc. With all this much happening in our contemporary times, the news of a third wave has sent tremors of fear among the people.
However, the hope for humanity isn’t still over yet. The Covid-19 infection besides being a disease exhibits a controllable conditional nature as well. Just like in diabetes, when the balanced sugar levels are maintained ardently, the patient can live a normal healthy and longer life. In the same way if Covid Appropriate Behaviour is adapted with meticulous diligence, there are ample chances of averting the wrath of a third wave.
But it all depends on our collective management skills wherein with precautions and preventive measures we can be able to stop its spread.
The inoculation holds a key to end this Pandemic and what it requires is to avoid myths and get vaccinated at priority if you get a chance. This will eventually help to attain a much required ‘herd immunity’. Once the general immunity is attained against this disease, the virologists and medical experts say that within a time period of 7-10 years humanity will be able to tame this virus just in line with Cholera or Polio.
Amid this uncertain situation, people especially in Jammu and Kashmir need to come forward and help themselves. Proper implementation of SOPs and the guidelines issued by the WHO and the concerned government is need of the hour.
Implementation of Covid protocol in letter and spirit will not only minimize the fatalities that rising day by day but will also lessen the burden on already exhausted Healthcare facilities available in this region.
