Uri, Feb 2 : The residents of Jabla on Thursday protested in front of Sub-divisional Magistrate Uri against tehsil administration over alleged nepotism in nomination of Numberdar for the village.

The anguished inhabitants alleged that the revenue norms were flouted with disdain in nomination of the Numberdar.

A local resident Basharat Hussain told GNS that the tehsil administration nominated the Numberdar without any information to the villagers.

“It was yesterday when we visited tehsil office Uri to bring it to the notice of Naib-Tehsildar Uri, but instead of listening to us, the revenue official said that it was the sole mandate of his office to nominate the Numberdar”, he said adding ironically five among us were taken into custody.

When contacted, Tehsildar Uri Rayees Ahmad Dar told GNS that there has been some misunderstanding among the people. “We have talked to the people and the misunderstanding has been cleared”, he said.

“The process of nomination of Numberdar is going on and no one has been finalized for the post”, he said.

“We are still receiving forms, once scrutiny is over then only the name of the nominated person will be made public”, he further said. (GNS)
