NEW DELHI: Budget airlines GoAir and IndiGo will together cancel nearly to 1,000 domestic flights on Sunday during the Janta Curfew proposed by Prime Minister Modi. GoAir informed that it will voluntarily suspend all flights on March 22 in support of the Janta curfew. Note that the Janta curfew is from 7 am to 9 pm this Sunday.
India’s largest domestic airline IndiGo on Friday evening said that it will reduce capacity on domestic routes on Sunday. The airline separately said that it will operate only 60% of its domestic schedule of about 1,400 local flights on Sunday. Going forward it will trim it further by 25%.
Flights cancelled during Janta Curfew:
In its statement, IndiGo said it would trim 40% of its domestic schedule on Sunday “in order to accommodate those with urgent travel requirements on that day”. “Going forward, responding to the various travel restrictions imposed worldwide, most of our international flights are suspended and additionally, given the reduction in domestic demand, we are trimming our domestic India operations by approximately 25% for now. In this fluid situation, IndiGo will continually review operations to match capacity to demand,” it further said.
GoAir said in its statement, “GoAir will voluntarily suspend all flights on Sunday, March 22, in support of Janta Curfew proposed by Honorable Prime Minister.’
