JeM militant killed in Budgam gunfight

Srinagar, Jun 28 : One militant affiliated with Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) was killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Kralpora Checkpora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Police officials said that a Cordon and Search Operation was jointly launched by police and others forces in Kralpora Checkpora area this morning following the speicifc inputs about the presence of militants.
During the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter, police said, adding that in the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter.

Police said that as per the incriminating materials recovered from gunfight site, the slain militant has been identified as Zarar, a foreigner, adding that all these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other cases.
“The slain as per police records was wanted by law for his complicity in cases including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.” Police said that Zarar was part of groups involved in planning and executing attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. “Several cases were registered against him,” police said.

Police said with the efforts of police and security forces, it was a clean operation and no collateral damage took place during the exchange of fire.

Meanwhile police urged people not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any, police added.

Meanwhile, clashes also broke out between the youth and government forces near the gunfight site. Reports said that the youth took to the streets soon after the gunfight broke out, adding that the youth started pelting stones on government forces during which forces used tear gas canisters to disperse them.

However, reports said that one youth has sustained bullet injury during the clashes who was shifted to hospital for treatment.

Moreover, the mobile internet services were snapped in the area following the ensuing of gunfight. The services were however restored in the evening. (KNS)
