SRINAGAR, Dec 09: BJP J&K President, Ravinder Raina expressed confidence in India’s democratic values and the legal system ahead of the Supreme Court’s verdict on Article 370, scheduled for Monday.

Speaking to reporters at Church Lane in Srinagar, Raina said, “India is a democratic country governed by the rule of law, and we all have faith in our legal system and courts.”

“We all are ready to support and accept the court’s decision,” he said, adding, “During the hearings, both parties and the opposition presented their views in court, and the Supreme Court telecast the Article 370 proceedings online, allowing the entire population of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the world, to witness the process.”

The J&K BJP chief expressed hope that everyone in Jammu and Kashmir and across the country would respect the apex court’s decision, which he said is “above politics”. “The court’s decision is more significant than politics, and we all have to accept it,” he added.

He urged other political parties, including the National Conference, People’s Democratic Party, Congress, Peoples Conference and Apni Party to also accept the final decision by the Supreme Court.

Regarding elections and seat reservations in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Raina said, “I want elections to be held here as early as possible; and like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, BJP will win here as well with a majority.”

He proposed provisions for nominated MLAs, including two women—one a Kashmiri migrant and another from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir residing in India—to represent their respective communities. “This way, they can speak on behalf of their people,” he said.

The BJP leader further suggested including nominated MLAs from various communities, such as Kashmiri Pandits, Sikhs, Muslim migrants and other groups. “They should be given preference,” he said—(KNO)
