The Jammu and Kashmir Forest, Ecology, and Environment Department has announced the allocation of ₹25 crore for the development of infrastructure at Wular Lake, one of Asia’s largest freshwater lakes.
The department in its official budget document confirmed the allocation of funds for the development of infrastructure around Wular Lake.
The government revealed that the funds have been earmarked to enhance the infrastructure surrounding Wular Lake, aiming to promote conservation and sustainable development in the region.
The government also outlined plans to boost eco-tourism by engaging local youth as eco-guides, creating employment opportunities and fostering environmental awareness.
The government also disclosed plans to produce 46,000 quintals of fodder to support the livelihoods of local communities. This initiative, valued at ₹1.40 crore, will provide free fodder to residents, ensuring economic benefits and reinforcing the region’s agricultural sustainability.
