J&K sees uptick in corruption cases, 94 cases filed in 2021: NCRB

Srinagar, Sep 22 : Corruption cases in Jammu and Kashmir have seen an increase with 94 cases filed under prevention of corruption and related sections of IPC last year.

According to the NCRB report, there was a continuous decline in the number of corruption cases in J&K from 2018 to 2020. Eighty-two corruption cases were filed in 2018, 73 in 2019 and 71 in 2020. But the cases jumped to 94 in 2021, reflecting an upward trend in graft cases.

According to the data, the cases registered by Anti Corruption Bureau, vigilance and other agencies include 29 trap cases, 15 cases of disproportionate assets, two cases of criminal misconduct and 48 other cases.

It said that 386 cases of corruption were pending in J&K by end of 2020 besides that four cases were reopened for investigation, two cases were transferred to other state or agency, in 29 cases final reports have been submitted, 55 cases have been chargesheeted and 398 cases were pending by end of year 2021.

The data said that three cases were convicted, seven cases acquitted, trials of 10 cases completed, 16 cases disposed of by courts, 606 cases pending for trials and with that conviction rate is 30 percent and pendency percentage is 97 percent.

It said that under action taken by the court, 384 persons have been arrested in J&K, 342 persons charge-sheeted, 3 persons convicted and 18 acquitted.

Under departmental action, no person has been dismissed from service on corruption charges in J&K while just three persons were imprisoned or awarded major punishment, it said.
