DIG CID Rayees Mohammad Bhat Accepts Award on Behalf of UT Police

SRINAGAR, June 25:
In a moment of immense pride for the Union Territory, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been conferred with national recognition for its exemplary performance in passport verification services for the year 2024–25. The award, instituted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), was presented during the Passport Seva Divas celebrations held at CB Muthamma Hall, Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, New Delhi.
DIG CID Rayees Mohammad Bhat (IPS) received the award on behalf of the J&K Police from the Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Pabitra Margherita. The ceremony was attended by senior MEA officials, representatives from 37 Passport Offices across the country, officials from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and various service providers associated with the passport issuance ecosystem.
For the period between April 2024 and March 2025, Jammu and Kashmir Police successfully completed verification of 1,34,219 passport applications, marking an exceptional disposal rate. This performance placed the J&K Police among the best-performing law enforcement agencies in the country in the domain of passport-related police verification—a critical component in the passport issuance process.
Passport Seva Divas is commemorated annually to mark the enactment of the Passport Act of 1967, which laid the legal foundation for the issuance of passports and other travel documents by the Government of India. The day also serves as an opportunity to highlight the contributions of various departments, especially law enforcement agencies, in ensuring efficient delivery of passport services.
The national recognition underscores the relentless dedication, professionalism, and commitment of J&K Police personnel, particularly within the CID wing. Their swift and transparent verification processes have significantly contributed to improving public service delivery, enhancing citizen satisfaction, and reinforcing trust in government institutions.
This is the first time that the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been formally acknowledged at the national level for its contribution to passport verification—an achievement that reflects the department’s commitment to modernization, service excellence, and citizen-centric governance.
