Srinagar: J&K Peoples Movement (JKPM) has urged upon the administration to create at least 1500 posts for the unemployed veterinary surgeons.
In a press statement JKPM Senior Vice-President Advocate Syed Iqbal Tahir said that more than 75 % of the rural population is associated with the agricultural and allied sectors. “Animal and sheep husbandry is one of the important sectors with which the people of the rural areas are associated. Only 3/4 of the total veterinarians are working in the field. The difference between the recruitment and availability affects the productivity of people engaged in this sector and is the reason for the dipping trend of livestock population of J&K. He said the situation is so alarming that near about 900 centres of veterinaries are run by non- professionals” Iqbal Tahir said in his statement.
He further said that in the year 2008, 400 posts were created in the department but the relevant is still pending since 2008 for approval and during this period the number of unemployed veterinary surgeons reached new heights.
While criticising the government over the same issue, JKPM Provincial President Mir Azad said that every the department has gone through a mass recruitment drive to address the unemployment such as rebar-e-talim, rebar-e-ziraat , rebar-e-janglaat , rebar-e-khel etc but in the department of animal and sheep husbandry, the recruitment process proved to be null and void in vanishing the employment of veterinary surgeons as no mass recruitment is done so far in this department and now the advertisement of mere 100 posts in this department is very much disturbing and disappointing.
JKPM District President Ganderbal Mohd Amin Sofi said that the unemployed youth of the veterinary field has been discriminated since long despite the repeated commitments made by the government to address the unemployment issue of the veterinary surgeon, no one in the government is addressing there issue.
JKPM stands with the demands of the unemployed youth of veterinary field and stresses upon the government to create at least 1500 posts of veterinary surgeons in the department of animal and husbandry and same should be advertised in the ongoing recruitment process of gazetted and non-gazetted posts in agriculture and allied sectors in the interest of unemployed veterinary youth and the interest of J&K.
