‘Ensures better coordination between district administration and media persons’
Baramulla : The Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Sehrish Asgar Saturday reiterated that it would ensure better coordination between the district administration and media agencies to facilitate dissemination of factual information through media.
She was talking on the sidelines of a meeting wherein a group of media persons representing different print and electronic media welcomed her to the district.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla said that the media plays an important role in nation building by dissemination of information regarding developmental schemes and highlighting issues of common people.
“My office will remain open for media persons who want to play a role in nation building. However, anyone found disseminating fake news will be dealt with according to law,” she added.
Different issues being faced by the media and general public of the district were discussed at threadbare.
Suggestions were also sought from the media persons in addressing the various problems being faced by them in connection with the dissemination of developmental activities being carried out in the district.
DC Baramulla said that both the print and electronic media are playing a vital role in effective implementation of government welfare schemes and other activities.
She said that journalists should be aware of welfare schemes and government programmes so that they can report anomalies effectively which will ultimately help the public at large.
She listened to the demands and issues of media persons and assured them all possible help from administration in this regard.
However she said that unauthorised/unregistered journalists must complete their registration or obtain approval (of administration) before performing their professional duties.
“Any unauthorised person posing as a journalist won’t be entertained at any cost. Journalists working with reputed media houses will be given every kind of support to perform their professional duties,” DC Baramulla added.
On the occasion DIO Baramulla Jehangir Akhoon, President Journalists group Irshad Bhat, besides members attended the meeting.
