As of now the state administrators are beating the drums for rejuvenating the education sector in Kashmir division especially in rural settings, but all such tall claims fall flat in Government Boys Higher Secondary School Kakapora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The Government Higher secondary school Kakapora which was established in 1981, is completely lagging in introducing the skill oriented programmes at higher secondary part second level from past 30 years.

The subjects which has been allotted at the time of inception are still taught by which the gross enrollment ratio of students goes on decreasing in every academic session. According to sources, the Government Boys Higher secondary school Kakapora has completely failed in introducing the Bio-Technology, Bio-Chemistry, and Bio-Resource subjects, besides that the Commerce stream has become a distinct dream, left no option for the students to pursue their academic programme somewhere else, causing great inconvenience and mental agony to students and parents belong from weaker section.

Meanwhile the matter of great concern is that Arts stream allied subjects like Political Science, Geology, Public Administration, physiology, Tourism Management and Mass Media which has tremendous scope and wide range of applicability had not also been added yet, as such programmes had initially formulated some years back by the Directorate of School education for expanding the avenues for higher education setup in Kashmir division. But it seems now that the concerned department is still grappling to introduce such subjects with adequate infrastructure in place at Government Higher secondary school Kakapora.

Sources reveled to Kashmir Despatch that new streams has been introduced in various higher secondary schools across the Kashmir valley, but the main reason behind such failure is due to lack of administrative correspondence between the officials.

The aggrieved students are incensed against school education department for ruining their career. “The University of Kashmir and other Universities has introduced Choice Based Credit System on Bachelors level for which the student had to choose multiple subjects of various streams which is mandatory, but such basic subjects are yet to be introduced in our school, puts all of us in a great dilemma ” said a student wishing (anonymity).

The feeding higher secondary schools which had been established recently had been allotted Commerce and Science allied subjects, but this higher secondary school Kakapora is completely lagging.

As per National Education policy 2019 advancement and exposure to new academic programmes is now a normal exercise, but the present situation of Government Higher Secondary School Kakapora predicts the grim picture which deserves the unsitting support from the officials of school education department.

When taken up this matter with the concerned principal of Government Higher Secondary School Kakapora she said, “I have written couple of times to concerned Chief Education officer Pulwama through proper channel for introducing Commerce and allied skill oriented subjects, but still there is no positive response from their end. She added that we are facing trouble as students are demanding for newly formulated subjects”.

When this correspondent called repeatedly upon Chief Education Officer Pulwama he told Kashmir Despatch that “it is not in my domain, I have already forwarded the proposal through proper channel to Directorate of School Education Kashmir for introducing new subjects at secondary level of various higher secondary schools including Government Boys Higher Secondary School Kakapora, but still no communication has been received by this office”.
