SRINAGAR, July 30: Er. Mehraj Malik, an educator, youth mentor and social impact leader from Kashmir, has been nominated among the World’s Top 50 educators for the UNESCO-related Global Teacher Prize, bringing international recognition to his more than decade-long work in education and youth empowerment.
Malik, who left a professional career at Microsoft to dedicate himself to empowering young people, has worked extensively with students across Kashmir. His initiatives have focused on nurturing leadership, innovation, resilience and a positive outlook among the region’s youth.
Over the years, Malik has conducted motivational sessions and youth engagement programmes in schools, colleges and correctional facilities, reaching more than 10,000 students across Kashmir. Through these interactions, he has encouraged young people to recognise their potential, overcome challenges and develop greater confidence in shaping their future.
His work has also received recognition at the highest levels. He has been honoured by the former Chief of the Indian Army and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir for his contributions to education and youth development.
Malik’s journey from the corporate world to grassroots education and social impact reflects his commitment to using knowledge and experience for the larger good. His engagement with young people extends beyond conventional classroom education, emphasising mentorship, personal growth, leadership and social responsibility.
His nomination among the world’s Top 50 educators is particularly significant for Kashmir, highlighting the impact that locally rooted educational initiatives can create on a wider platform.
