Srinagar, Jan 19 : The maestro of Rabab and Matka, Ishfaq Hamid, has been named among the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) Awardees on Friday.
The PMRBP is awarded to children with exceptional abilities and outstanding achievements. Ishfaq Hamid has been selected in the Art and Culture category.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that the awards will be presented by the President of India at a ceremony on January 22, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan.
In addition to receiving a medal, certificate, and citation booklet, awardees will also have the opportunity to interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 23, 2024. They will also participate in the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2024, the official added.
Ishfaq Hamid is known for his exceptional Rabab playing and his efforts in promoting this traditional art globally. He has previously received recognition during the 13th Kashmir festival and Guru Nanak Dev ji’s 550th Prakash Parv. He was also honored with the Bhai Mardana National Award 2020 by NGO Sarhad.
