Date:

Srinagar, Apr 18 : The lack of machines and specialist medicos has led to the increase in toll of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients in Kashmir while as the experts said, blood pressure, sugar, smoking, taking less fluid and use of pain killers are the main reasons behind the kidney failures.

The nephrologists while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that number of kidney failure patients has risen at alarming rate in last ten years and the lack of specialists and machines in district and sub district hospitals is adding to their miseries.

Dr. Saleem, a prominent Nephrologist told KNS that blood pressure, sugar, smoking, taking les fluid, use of pain killers, drug abuse, contaminated spices and oil are among the main reasons behind the kidney failure.

However, he said that lack of medicos and machines in the district as well as Sub District hospitals was adding the miseries of such patient as they are unable to get diagnosed at the early stage.

He said once they are diagnosed later in two prominent hospitals in Srinagar, it becomes difficult for a doctor to treat the patient at the last stage, thus the patient fails to get proper treatment on time.

Dr. Saleem further added adequate number of medicos and machines should be made available at Valley hospitals so that the lives of such patients could be saved.

Quoting a study, Dr. Saleem said a doctor in the world has to treat 300 patients, but the ratio varies in India as the doctor has to treat almost 1800-1900 patients. However, he said that in Kashmir, the number goes high as compared to India.
