The people in Kashmir can aptly be described as dedicated food lovers who lavishly enjoy a large variety of native dishes & exquisite bakery. But the problem of food adulteration and necessary quality control has always been a serious challenge for the administration.
Yesterday, a video that surfaced on social media websites stoke a way of anger and shock among the people in which a person was kneading the dough with his bare feet. It was obvious from the video that the place was highly unhygienic and the deep fried multi-layered bread called Fini were excellent abode for numerous disease causing germs.
A swift action was taken by the Drugs and Food Control Organisation (D&FCO) by sealing numerous shops that were associated with this bread producing unit. However, the question still remains, what if the video was not shot and circulated on social media? And how many other such units exist there which compromise with the standard food producing guidelines?
We all know there still will be a considerable number of such mini self-styled bread producing units that are often established across Kashmir division especially during the time of Ramadan and nearing Eid days. People usually go to the markets to buy these delicacies but little they know about its sub-standard and unhygienic quality.
Moreover, the ingredients used in such establishments are equally below standard and often the oil used to fry is cotton seed oil which has been declared hazardous for health by numerous government and food regulation industries. This eventually becomes a cocktail of hemlock that slowly affects our health.
While the government agencies must act vigilantly against such people who want to make easy profit through compromising with the health of the people, the society at large must also regulate their food habits and try to buy and eat more hygenic and healthy food. Rest the person involved in such shameful enterprises must be dealt with sternly.
