KPDCL, Hide & Seek

Date:

The hide and seek played by the power supply that too during the holy month of Ramadhan is a grim reminder of the perpetual darkness of winters in Kashmir. It seems the Power Development Corporation Limited has been designated as a nodal agency for disseminating lies about the power position in Jammu and Kashmir. Be it summers in Jammu or winters in Kashmir, the long and unscheduled power cuts have always been a reason behind perpetual agony for the people.

This situation persists unfortunately in J&K despite being self-sufficient in power generation. Since Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate yet another two power projects in J&K on April 24, it must be news to the outside world that J&K is the worst sufferer in terms of power supply position all along the year.

Though the government claims to be taking advanced measures to meet the supply and demand position especially during the peak time, the promises made thus, never get materialized on the ground. The present month of holy Ramadhan when people need uninterrupted power supply at Sehri (Pre dawn) and Iftar (evening) times, the power plays hide and seek thus deflating the tall claims and assurances made by the power development department.

The installation of smart meters serves no purpose when the department is not in a position to supply the electricity to these meters to record the consumption, not to talk about meeting out the consumers demands. The Lt governor must intervene and take a review of the power supply position and direct the concerned department for some concrete measures to address this most pressing issue, that is giving a tough time to the consumers in J&K.
