Kupwar Inhabitants Protest Over Power, Water Supply Crisis

Date:

Kupwara, Oct 5 : Scores of inhabitants from Malik Pora Gushi Tuesday lodged a protest and blocked Kupwara-Vilgam road over power supply disruption and water shortage in the area.

The protesters, as per GNS, raised slogans against PDD and Jal Shakti Department alleging that despite appraisals, the department officials were showing a lackadaisical approach towards the imminent issues.

The area is facing a power outage for many days now and the people are also facing an acute water shortage, the protesters said.

The protesters were later on pacified and scattered peacefully by a police team.

A Jal Shakti Department official told GNS that work on a water supply scheme under NABARD to the area is under progress and it may take some more time for completion. “Till the work gets completed and the project made functional, the people would continue to get the supply through tankers”, the official said.

When contacted, AEE PDD Abdul Hameed told GNS that the matter has been taken into consideration for immediate redressal. (GNS)
