Srinagar, Nov 04 : Days after declaring Juniper/Ladakhi Shakpa as its state tree, the administration of Ladakh Union Territory has begun the process of finalizing the state flower.

The Department of Forests, Environment and Ecology of the UT has sought suggestions from the general public over the state flower after shortlisting two species of flowers for it.

According to a notice, a copy of which is in possession of news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the administration of the UT today proposed Meconposis aculeata and Dactylorhiza hatagirea for declaration of state flower.

The Department said that suggestions over the proposal can be sent to the office of chief conservator of forest within a period of thirty days by email or post.

It is worthwhile to mention that the administration of the UT had last month declared Ladakhi-ShukPa (Juniper polypros) as a state tree.

The tree has immense socio-cultural and religious significance for the local communities in Ladakh. It is also used as medicine in the Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine for treating throat inflammation, spleen disorder, uterus disorder etc.

In October last year, the administration of the UT had declared snow leopard and black-necked crane respectively as state animal and state bird—(KNO)
