Land dispute: 7 people arrested for causing law and order situation

Shopian, July 21 : Seven people were arrested by the police in Manihal Batpora Shopian for causing law and order situation over a disputed land.

As per the reports, Abdul Rashid Sheikh has purchased a 2 Kanal land situated at Mahial Tehsil and District Shopian from a Kashmiri Pandit after he visited Jammu last year.

However, the neighbors of Abdul Rashid have objecting over the land purchased by him. As per the neighbors, Rashid had gone Jammu to purchase the land on behalf of Auqaf committee not on the personal account. Also as per the neighbors, playground was supposed to build on particular land.

Meanwhile, his neighbor yesterday allegedly attacked Abdul Rashid’s home damaging the property causing law and order situation in the area. While, during the course of action, seven people have been arrested against, which case has been registered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian.

Talking to Kashmir Despatch over the phone from Jammu the Kashmiri Pandit said that i had sell my land to Abdul Rashid Shiekh only not on behalf of Auqaaf Committee.
He said no one from auqaaf had approached me for the land.

Auqaf Chairman Farooq Ahmed denied the allegation that Abdul Rashid had gone Jammu to purchase the land on behalf of the committee. He said that neighbors of Abdul Rashid are lying and there is no truth in their statement.

He added that though there is a problem over the land in the area and we will try to solve it mutually.

A police official said that we are verifying the facts and so far we have arrested seven people for causing law and order situation in the area, while further investigation is on.
