Rafiabad : Security forces on Friday night arrested one active Lashkar-e-Toiba militant during cordon and search operation in north Kashmir’s Rafiabad village.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that based on specific input about the presence of some militants in Rohama area, a mixture of forces including Army’s 32 RR, PC Rafiabad and 92 BN CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
During the operation one active militant belonging to terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba was apprehended.
Meanwhile a senior police officer also confirmed this development and identified the arrested militant as Rizwan Shafi Lone son of Mohammad Shafi Lone of Shougpora Magam Handwara.
The officer said one pistol, one pistol magazine and five rounds were recovered from him.
Officer further said the apprehension of LeT militant averted a major incident in North Kashmir. He was assigned to plan an attack on security forces personnels and VIPs by his handlers sitting across the border. This individual was previously apprehended in the year 2017 & 2018 for stone pelting and terrorism related charges. He is one of the most highly radicalised youth in the valley.
He said security forces constantly urge the youth of the valley to not get carried away and refrain from coming under the influence of devious self-serving anti-national elements. These handlers from across the border are desperate to revive militancy in the valley. They brainwash innocent youth and use them as puppets to fulfil their insidious treacherous goals in the name of religion he added.
