Life is beautiful: Kargil woman under quarantine gives birth to a healthy baby

Date:

People call him a miracle baby because he was born to a mother who was quarantined in the wake of coronavirus pandemic in Kargil reported Kashmir Monitor.

Nine-month pregnant Aisha (name changed) was put under quarantine after two residents of Sanko village were tested positive. Coming from a poor family, she went into labor in the wee hours of March 28. She was immediately rushed to the district hospital where she delivered a baby boy.

What came as a surprise was that a local girl, unmindful of her own safety, volunteered to take care of the woman while volunteers from Islamia School brought medicines and other paraphernalia for the mother and baby.

“Her entire family is under quarantine. A local girl, who did not know the woman, came forward to help her. Even some people contributed to buy clothes and medicines. We rushed to the hospital and saw the girl with few hundred bucks trying to locate a shop. Since everything is shut, I asked the girl not to worry. I went home to bring traditional food which we usually give to the lactating mother. Besides, we also arranged clothes for baby”, said Liqayat Ali, a volunteer from Islamia School.

Aisha and her family were put under quarantine after two people from Sanko tested positive. Though Aisha has tested negative, she was put under quarantine as a precautionary measure. When she developed labor, her 14 day quarantine period was coming to an end.

“She had a normal delivery. Both the mother and her baby are doing fine. We had tested her as a preventive measure and the reports came back negative. She was shifted from the containment zone to district hospital where she delivered the baby”, said Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary, deputy commissioner, Kargil.

For the mother, it was double happiness. She was asked to go home as her quarantine period came to an end. “She has been discharged and allowed to go home. Her quarantine period is over. Since the entire zone had been declared containment zone after two cases tested positive, she was in the preventive quarantine”, said Choudhary reported Kashmir Monitor.
