As the government announced lockdown across Srinagar and other districts of Jammu and Kashmir, panic buying and stocking of essential commodities has begun once again. The government reports recorded 30 deaths due to CoronaVirus on Wednesday across J&K.
The Covid Second Wave has begun to show its brutal side in the valley and the medical preparedness seems minuscule and extremely below the mark. The oxygen supply scarcity has started to surface, as one of the patients allegedly passed away in Chest and Disease Hospital due to its unavailability.
The only option that remains is to curb Covid’s growing spread by imposing a strict lockdown that will help to break the chain and hinder the spread of virus. However, this solution has its serious implications on our already wobbling economy which has suffered many blows from the past three years in a row.
Lockdown is definitely imperative now but those who have already faced the brunt of previous lockdowns are totally broke now. The government besides delivering free ration have to understand that a common man whose business and occupations have been extremely hit with such lockdowns need something more than ration supply.
The monetary stipends must be given to those who are economically downtrodden in case lockdowns are going to become a temporary norm. This is the only way to save human lives, succeed in an effective lockdown and help the economy jump back once the wrath of this pandemic is over. Otherwise, if the nimble sections of our society are economically devastated in this new lockdown the repercussion for our interconnected economy will be of a tantamount scale.
