Bandipora, Aug 19: A long-pending demand for development of the playing field at Gund Jehangir in Bandipora’s Sonawari area has received a push from the Jammu and Kashmir Government, with the J&K Sports Council directed to take up the matter on priority.
The move followed a representation submitted by Advocate Bilal Ahmad Bhat, who sought government intervention for development of the playground and highlighted the need for the facility to be upgraded for the local community.
The Personal Section of the Minister for FCS&CA, Transport, Science & Technology, IT, YSS and ARI & Trainings forwarded the representation to the Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, directing that the matter be given priority.
The council has been asked to expedite the development, fencing and upgradation of the playing field and submit a compliance report at the earliest.
The playground has remained a long-standing demand of residents of the area, who have been seeking better sports facilities for local youth.
Locals welcomed the government’s intervention, saying a properly developed and fenced playing field would provide young people with a dedicated space for sports and help address the shortage of sports infrastructure in the area.
