Man Found Dead After Jumping into Canal in Ganderbal

Ganderbal, June 24 : A man was found dead after being retrieved from the Hydropower Canal at Burnbugh area of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Wednesday, officials said.

According to officials, teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from Gund and Ganderbal launched a search and rescue operation after receiving information that a man had allegedly jumped into the Hydropower Canal near Burnbugh.

Following intensive efforts, the SDRF teams successfully recovered the body from the canal. The deceased was identified as Ghulam Mohiuddin, son of Ghulam Hassan, a resident of Poshkar Kangan.

Officials said that after retrieval, the body was handed over to the concerned authorities for completion of medico-legal and other legal formalities.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the case.
