Bandipora Feb 17 : The practice of prescribing costly medicines to poor patients continues in District Hospital Bandipora from years,giving free hand to Pharma companies in the distribution of the medicines in hospitals and outside hospital premises.
Speaking with the Kashmir Despatch,Manzoor Ahmad whose wife was admitted in district hospital said that from the last three days doctors continuously prescribing them medicines which are not available in hospital forces him to buy it from private medical shops.
“Doctors in district hospital prescribed me medicines for three days, as i was suffering from cough and favor,when i visited to buy that medicines from outside district hospital they did not cut even single tablet from 10 tablets while saying this whom we will give these tablets if we cut these,they are costly”,said Aaqib Ahmad while speaking with Kashmir Despatch.
“Lack of prescription audit and its strict implementation , alleged medical corruption, freebies to doctors are counted among the vital reasons for mass medications in district hospital Bandipora—leaving poor patients at high risk”,several patients alleged.
The patient suffers from the side effects of medicine which isn’t required and many a time low quality medicine prescribed on account of freebies is ineffective in treating their ailments and on the contrary causes adverse effects.
“Various types of medicines are available in hospital supply but mostly doctors prescribe medicines which are not available and are costly “,patients alleged.
Meanwhile speaking with the Kashmir Despatch,Medical Bandipora Dr.Mushtaq Ahmad said that he personally monitors and makes prescription audits of doctors every month if any doctor is found prescribing costly medicines,will take action against them.
“We are monitoring prescriptions advised by doctors to patients. We have drugs available on hospital drug counters,medicines which are not available in hospital supply are available at Ayush drug counter at cheaper rates’ ‘,he added.
