Ganderbal, June 13: A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday at Chanthan in the Lar area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, reducing a shop to ashes and causing losses estimated at several lakhs of rupees.
According to reports, the fire erupted around 4:00 a.m., allegedly due to a short circuit. The flames rapidly engulfed the shop, leaving little chance to save the goods and property stored inside.
Police personnel rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the incident. Locals appreciated the swift response of SHO Lar and his team, who reached the spot promptly and assisted in controlling the situation.
The affected shop belonged to a specially-abled youth who depended on the business for his livelihood. The fire completely destroyed the shop and its contents, resulting in substantial financial losses.
Appealing to the Jammu and Kashmir Government and the district administration, the victim has sought immediate financial assistance and compensation to help him recover from the setback and rebuild his source of income.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
