Baramulla : The Chairman Municipal Council Baramulla Touseef Raina today said that the cart vendors were warned several times in the past week and action against them was necessary.
He however said that the way employees of MC Baramulla took action against the card vendors is unjustified.
“I called the employees and warned them not to stick to such a practice in near future. They too are from the same society and we need to understand this. The cart vendors and shopkeepers too have to understand that blocking roads for public transport and pedestrians is completely wrong. Let’s not politicise the issue for wrong reasons,” Raina said.
Earlier MC Baramulla employees were caught on video harassing and toppling the carts of street vendors in Baramulla drawing criticism from the public.
The congress spokesperson Sheikh Aamir said that this brazen act of violence on cart vendors is unjustified and no sane person can admire it.
“The business community, cart vendors have already faced a lot during the pandemic and destroying, toppling their carts is totally against the law. They should have been warned, fined and brought to justice through proper channels,” Aamir said.
He said that the cart vendors must be paid for the losses they suffered by the action of MC Baramulla employees.
